Every grain bin requires a solid foundation to prevent shifting, cracking and leaking. Twister's concrete foundation form has solved all of these problems. Creating a perfectly round, flat foundation has been a problem until the advent of the Twister concrete foundation system.
Silo foundation design has dictated that grain bins be bolted to the concrete foundation, resulting in the requirement for expensive foundation bolts and leaving a ledge around the outside of the bin, where water can collect. Conventional foundations are difficult to construct perfectly round and level. Twister has solved all of these problems by supplying a steel concrete form with every bin. This steel form makes it easy to create a perfectly round foundation and instead of bolting the bin to concrete, the bin is bolted to the steel concrete-filled form. This eliminates the necessity for a water-collecting outer ledge, and because the bin is bolted to steel flanges, this steel-to-steel connection is easy to caulk. So, instead of water being drawn through porous concrete and into the grain inside, the water is stopped at the caulk and spoiled grain at the base of the bin is a thing of the past.
Concrete Foundations the Watertight Twister Way
The Twister concrete foundation provides a solution to all of the problems associated with conventional concrete foundations.
The steel foundation was designed with you in mind, everything you need to make the foundation perfectly round and level is included in every kit. The concrete comes to a level finish with the form so that no extra effort is needed to level the concrete below the form as with other designs. Assembly is so simple that no previous concrete experience is necessary to produce a perfect foundation on the first try.
When the foundation is completed the bin is fastened directly to the foundation using hardware and caulking that are supplied with the kit. Unlike other steel systems, the flange to flange joint accommodates minor variations in elevation and makes the tie-down of the bin a snap. Because the seal between the foundation and the bin is a steel-to-steel joint, it is easy to caulk and the resulting seal is perfectly watertight!
Economics
Substantial savings in concrete costs are realized when the Twister foundation is used because the slab does not need to extend beyond the bin, and, because the foundation is so easy and quick to assemble, labour costs are remarkably lower.
